Sponsor | dogearpublishing | Jan 19, 2007 3:03pm | | The goal is to create a set of lively discussions surrounding self publishing - and I'd like to contribute any answers I may - I've been a buyer for a bookstore chain, managed the marketing department of one of the NY publishing companies, created a publishing acquisitions staff, and now own a publishing services company working with traditional publishers and authors who want to publish their own books. Ask me anything at all, and I'll give you a solid straight answer (or, tell you who might know the answer if I don't). thanks for asking ! _ Ray |

From an Irish perspective, one of the major problems about the North American market is warehousing and distribution. Even amazon.com, which might be a fallback, won't accept titles unless they're warehoused in the U.S. Small Press Distribution used to fill this role pretty well for many small presses (which are often primarily for self-publishing) in the U.K. and Ireland, but I'm told that they're getting more picky, more expensive and less efficient.
Are you aware of any other solutions to this problem? |

This doesn't solve the 'how to get my book on bookstore shelves' issue, but it does make the book widely available - specifically Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders/Walden and via the two big distribution houses Ingram Book and Baker & Taylor. |

(They have a presence in the U.K.) As you know, though, there are very significant constraints on format if you use POD: there's only a very limited set of templates available to choose from. That's why I'm interested in discovering other routes to the reader's hand. |
